Over the past week, US Central Command forces have taken a series of decisive actions to counter threats posed by Iranian-backed Houthi forces in Yemen and the Red Sea.

These operations have targeted Houthi-controlled areas and their assets which, according to USCENTCOM, posed imminent risks to coalition forces and commercial shipping in the region.

On Thursday, forces destroyed a Houthi ground control station located in a Houthi-controlled area of Yemen.

"It was determined this ground control station presented a clear and imminent threat to US and coalition forces, and merchant vessels in the region," CENTCOM said in a statement on X.

"This action was taken to protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer and more secure for US, coalition, and merchant vessels."

Earlier, on Tuesday, two Houthi vessels in the Red Sea were neutralised by US forces.

The US military condemned what it described as "reckless and dangerous behaviour" by the Houthis, which continues to undermine regional stability.

At the beginning of August, US forces conducted operations that led to the destruction of a Houthi missile launcher and an uncrewed surface vessel in Yemen, along with two uncrewed aerial vehicles over the Red Sea.

CENTCOM also reported the destruction of two Houthi anti-ship cruise missiles and another ground control station in Yemen.

Additionally, a Houthi uncrewed surface vessel was also destroyed in the Red Sea.

In response to the ongoing Houthi threats, US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin ordered the USS Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group, equipped with F-35C fighters, to expedite its deployment to the Central Command area of responsibility.

This move is aimed at bolstering the military capabilities already provided by the USS Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group.

Additionally, the USS Georgia (SSGN 729), a guided-missile submarine, has been directed to the region to further enhance US military presence.

The Houthis are an Iranian-backed rebel group that considers Israel their enemy.

They started firing drones and missiles towards Israel after the start of the war in Gaza.
