Accuracy, Balance and Fairness

BFBS Forces News staff follow the Editors’ Code of Practice

All content published on the website undergoes a two-stage editorial process. The initial stage constitutes a sense, structure and fact-check by a senior editor. The latter stage constitutes a style and secondary fact-check by a sub-editor. This ensures consistency and aims to capture and correct any errors prior to publication.

Our reporters offer right to reply on stories and seek to be fair and balanced in their reporting. Where it has not been possible to make contact with a source prior to publication, we will indicate this.

Transparency

Our output is based on our own reporting and information supplied to us by trusted sources. Where we rely on another news organisation's reporting, we clearly indicate this.

We seek permission social media usage and pay media agencies for using any of their work.

Articles are bylined to the staff member that has undertaken the majority of the reporting. Additional contributors are cited at the bottom of each article.

Opinion articles are clearly marked as such.

Use of AI

AI can be used for administrative tasks to speed up the reporting process but cannot be used for content production or to author anything that is published on the website.

Information returned by an AI tool is treated as unverified until fact-checked by a human.

All final decisions on the publication of content where AI has been used in the reporting process rest with the Editor.

Children

We seek permission from a parent or guardian before filming or interviewing under 16s.

Complaints & Corrections

We take all complaints seriously and endeavor to address them in a timely manner. Any concerns can be sent via email to the Editor, [email protected].

If an error has been made, it will be corrected in a timely manner. A correction will be placed at the top of the article in which the mistake was made, or on the homepage of the website, at the discretion of the Editor.
