Staying Prepared: Riot Training With 1 LANCS

Troops from 1 LANCS, based in Cyprus, have been testing their public order skills alongside the Sovereign Base Areas (SBA) police.

The SBA has had to deal with rioting in the past, including a serious outbreak of disorder back in 2001.

Then, a mob stormed a police station near Episkopi and laid siege to RAF Akrotiri.

The disorder left 31 police officers needing hospital treatment and caused an estimated £500,000 worth of damage.

So although 1 LANCS' training was an exercise, it was very realistic, as Forces TV's Simon Newton reports.
