Take a sneak peek of Meribel's rapid downhill course as Inter Services Snow Sports return

Watch as ex-racer takes on Meribel's famous rapid Downhill course and talks us through it

Expect plenty more fast-paced action at this year's Inter Services Snow Sports Championships, like the hair-raising run in the video above, in which former racer Joe Williamson talks us through the thrilling twists and turns of the downhill course.

Joe last competed in 2018 and is now part of the hill team who ensures competition week goes smoothly and safely.

He is one of a 27-strong hill team from the UK Armed Forces Winter Sports Association - including chairs, technical delegates, plus start and finish personnel.

They are supported by a team of 30 ESF (École du Ski Français) members who tirelessly groom the competition slopes so that the 120 athletes have the best conditions possible.

The opening ceremony was held on Sunday night, with teams parading out before ESF members performed their annual routine down the slope at the Stade - their ski suits covered in lights to illuminate an otherwise starry and dark montane sky.

The downhill takes place on Tuesday morning amid a busy five-day schedule.
