Welsh Guards asks AI to create the perfect Guardsman - and the results are raising some eyebrows
Artificial Intelligence image creation software has created what it believes members of the Welsh Guards should look like - with some surprising results.
One picture shows an officer wearing a bear face mask while another shows soldiers sporting hotly debated bushy beards in full ceremonial uniform.
In a post on Instagram, the Welsh Guards wrote: "We asked the latest Artificial Intelligence image creation software to create what it thinks our Guardsmen looks like."
The post sarcastically adds: "AI's attempt at capturing our precision in ceremonial photos: 'Almost there, mate!'.
"While AI has been making strides in art, catching our uniformity and keen eye for detail? That's a whole new ball game.
"Picture an AI's take on our iconic ceremonial moments - from perfectly aligned bearskins to the gleaming boots - it might just end up with soldiers doing cartwheels in bear masks!"
The Welsh Guards also asked followers "Which one is your favourite?"
One person commented saying "they should definitely adopt the second image with the shoulder fur", while another follower posted: "Let's be honest. Beards would look badass."
"Cymru Am Byth," the post added, which is the motto of the Welsh Guards and translates as "Wales Forever".
The news comes after the British Army said its dress and appearance policy was "under constant review" amid reports it could be about to relax its rules on beards to aid recruitment.
