Beating Retreat: Tri-service band rehearsals ahead of busy summer

Preparations are in full flow for the musicians of the Armed Forces ahead of a summer schedule that includes the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines Portsmouth, the British Army Band Tidworth and the Band of the RAF Regiment came together at RAF Northolt to rehearse the historic Beating Retreat ceremony.

A tri-service Beating Retreat is a rare event, usually reserved for special national occasions, and sees the bands perform alone before roughly 100 musicians come together for a finale.
