The military has been called upon to evacuate a patient in Scotland.

The individual was on a Scottish island when they were picked up and transported to the mainland for treatment.

During a press conference Nicola Sturgeon, the First Minister of Scotland and Leader of the Scottish National Party, said:

"We've had to call on military help to transport a patient from one of Scotland's islands for treatment."

Since then restrictions have been put in place to stop people travelling to remote islands to escape the coronavirus outbreak.

Ferries in Scotland are now only for "essential travel", with tourists banned from boarding them.

Ms Sturgeon added that no part of Scotland "was not at risk".

Ten people have now died in the country due to COVID-19.
