Should Britain Have A Large Military Parade Poll: The Results

British Army 1 SCOTS parade

The results are in... and Forces Network's audience has spoken.

After Donald Trump asked the Pentagon to plan a grand parade of armed forces personnel in Washington to celebrate US military strength, we asked your thoughts on the issue.

It has been reported that the plan came about due to Mr Trump's admiration for the Bastille Day military parade he attended in Paris in July last year.

The last military parade to take place in the UK, meanwhile, was in 2014 as part of a memorial service for members of the Armed Forces who served in Afghanistan.

However, this was a quieter event than those to have taken place in France and Russia, featuring no military vehicles or weaponry.

So we asked: "Should the UK have its own large military parade, similar to Bastille Day?"

In the end, it was 65-35 in favour of 'Yes - it'd be a great way to show off our armed forces', with just under 600 votes cast.

Britain has not traditionally embraced showy displays of raw military power, such as North Korea's parading of ballistic missiles as a claim of international prestige and influence, so it's perhaps unsurprising that the plan caused a lot of debate.

One of the arguments in support of the majority was that it could provide a deserved morale boost to the forces. One commenter on our social media pages said:

Others argued, however, that it sounded like a waste of money...
