The US President has claimed the person likely to succeed Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi as leader of so-called Islamic State (IS) has been killed by American troops.

President Donald Trump stated the unnamed individual had been "terminated" by US personnel.

It is just days since Mr Trump claimed US special forces killed Al-Baghdadi in Syria.

The US president has now confirmed military personnel have killed another high-profile member of IS.

"Just confirmed that Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s number one replacement has been terminated by American troops," he tweeted.

"Most likely would have taken the top spot - Now he is also Dead!"
