Polar Preet: Representation and role models key to inspiring next generation

Earlier this year, Captain 'Polar' Preet Chandi conquered the Antarctic – becoming the first woman of colour to trek to the South Pole unsupported.

Now, she is touring the UK looking to inspire the next generation and, at a special event at Edinburgh Castle, she told Forces News it is "so important to have representation [and] to have role models".

"I remember being told that I don't look like a polar explorer, but what does a polar explorer look like?" she said.

"I want to show them that you can look like anything and do anything."

Captain Chandi's record breaking 700-mile trek, sponsored by BFBS, took her just 40 days, seven hours and three minutes – a daily average distance of about 17 miles.
