Family reunion for Royal Navy serving siblings both deployed to the Middle East

It was a chance encounter for Lieutenant Katy Baines and her brother Leading Engineering Technician (Weapon Engineering) Joseph Baines as they met on the Flight Deck of HMS Diamond east of the Suez Canal.

The serving siblings were reunited while their Royal Navy units were both deployed on operations in the area. 

HMS Diamond posted details of their "short rendezvous" on X, along with a photo of the brother and sister together.

Last week HMS Diamond shot down a Houthi missile – the first combat interception of this type in more than 30 years.

The Type 45 destroyer was defending a merchant vessel in the Gulf of Aden when her Sea Viper missile system was used to target the weapon which had been fired by Iranian-backed Houthis from Yemen.
