The Former Military Hospital Destined For Demolition

One of Britain’s largest former military hospitals is due to be demolished later this year after half a century of service.

The Princess Mary’s Hospital is inside RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus but for the past few years it’s been empty.

The hospital and its staff cared for thousands of patients
The primary reason for the closure was the dwindling number of patients, coupled with an increasingly uneconomic building.

Generations of service men and women used The Princes Mary’s Hospital in Cyprus & it was difficult for some to adjust to the cultural differences experienced at other hospitals in Cyprus.

Opened in 1963, The Princess Mary’s Hospital had beds for 200 patients but the complex treated its last patient in 2012.

Simon Newton has been allowed inside for a final look before the demolition men move in.
