Army Appoints NEW Highest Ranking Female Ever

The Army has appointed its first ever female 2 star major general.

Brigadier Susan Ridge will take up her new rank in September as the Army's chief legal advisor.

Brigadier Ridge, 52, said:
"The Army is a constantly evolving organisation which has provided a varied and interesting legal career. It has allowed me the opportunity to develop and progress throughout my working life. I feel very honoured and privileged to have been given this opportunity."
It comes after Brigadier Sharon Nesmith became the first female commander of a brigade last week.

She is now in charge of 1,500 personnel, who provide headquarters information and communication services to the NATO Allied Rapid Reaction Corps and Joint Force Headquarters.

Brigadier Nesmith says she supports the idea of women serving in combat infantry roles in principle, and has also talked about how the Army has changed since she joined more than two decades ago.
