British Soldier Who Died In Cyprus Incident Is Named

The British soldier serving with the United Nations in Cyprus who died in a training incident has been named as Private Jamie Lee Sawyer, a Royal Logistic Corps Chef attached to the 2 Mercian Battle Group.
 
20-year-old Pte Sawyer was rescued by marine police after getting into difficulty while canoeing as part of adventure training off Cape Greco. 
 
He was later pronounced dead by doctors at Famagusta General Hospital.
 
It's understood sea conditions were poor at the time of the incident.
 
A date for the funeral has not been set.
