Commander Land Forces on Strategic Importance of Cyprus to UK
The Commander of UK Land Forces has told Forces TV how strategically important Cyprus is to the British military.
It comes after Russia signed an agreement to give its ships access to the Mediterranean country's ports.
Lieutenant General James Everard has been on the island meeting British troops based there.
He visited the training area at RAF Akrotiri and watched members of 2nd Battalion the Yorkshire Regiment, the island's infantry reserve unit, take part in riot training.
Lt General Everard is also visiting 2nd Battalion Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment, the unit involved in training the Peshmerga in Northern Iraq, and added that the British Army would deliver whatever was needed to help defeat Islamic State.
