Fallon Defends RAF Pilots' Involvement In Syria Airstrikes

The Defence Secretary has defended the role of RAF pilots in US airstrikes against Islamic State in Syria, despite a vote against such action in 2013.

In a statement to the Commons, Michael Fallon said RAF pilots were embedded with other coalition forces that were taking part in military operations against IS, and denied there had been a cover-up.

The government has indicated, meanwhile, that at some point it will ask MPs to vote on expanding the air campaign against IS into Syria.

British aircraft are already flying surveillance missions over the war-torn country, but are only bombing targets in Iraq.
