A Female On The Frontline

The first female British Army soldier to kill an enemy in combat has spoken to Forces TV about the role of women in the military.

Chantelle Taylor, a former Army medic, was forced to defend herself after her convoy came under heavy fire in Afghanistan.

It comes after two women made US military history by becoming the first female soldiers to pass the Army's gruelling Ranger course.

Captain Kristen Griest and First Lieutenant Shaye Haver will not be able to serve on the frontline, however, while the ban on women in combat roles remains.

The US Secretary of Defense, Ash Carter, has congratulated the women, meanwhile, and said that the US expects to open up more frontline roles for women.
