Finland Strengthens NATO Ties On Operation Saber Strike

Recent international events have left the people of Finland, a nation which shares an 800-mile border with Russia and isn’t a member of NATO, in a state of heightened alert.

The annexation of Crimea by Russia, the conflict in eastern Ukraine, and violations of Finnish airspace by Russian aircraft, have all had an impact on the emphasis placed on defence by the country.

Recently the Finnish Army has been taking part in Operation Saber Strike, designed to strengthen its ties with NATO.

Approximately 2,000 troops from 14 countries are involved in the annual exercise.

It comes after British troops took part in a huge NATO exercise in Estonia, near the border with Russia.
