Fundraising Call for Memorial to Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans

A fundraising appeal for a new memorial to the Gulf, Iraq and Afghan wars has already raised a quarter of a million pounds.

But it needs to do the same again if it’s to trigger a further half a million pounds in match-funding by the government and reach the overall target of £1 million.

The appeal, on behalf of The Sun and Sun on Sunday newspapers, was started to recognise the more than 300,000 servicemen and women who served in Iraq and Afghanistan between 1990 and last year.

The man put in charge of raising the money is former Chief of the Defence Staff, Lord Stirrup, and he told Forces TV he's confident of raising the full amount.
