New Forces TV Series - We Were There

'We Were There' - A new exclusive series on Forces TV, brings together groups of soldiers, sailors and airmen who lived through dramatic events in Britain's military history over the past 50-60 years.

The first episode airs tomorrow night and features the story of soldiers who survived the Warrenpoint bombings in Northern Ireland.

Eighteen British soldiers, sixteen of them members of the Parachute Regiment, were killed in the worst single attack on UK forces during the Troubles.

Next week's episode tells the story of the sinking of HMS Sheffield. Twenty of her crew were killed when an Argentine Exocet missile hit the 4,100-tonne destroyer, which had 300 people on board, on 4 May 1982.

The third programme in the series is the remarkable and, sadly, little-remembered story of 'The Glorious Glosters' - the men of the Gloucestershire Regiment who fought a heroic rearguard action at the Battle of Imjin River during the Korean War in April 1951, the bloodiest battle fought by British troops since the Second World War. Five men who survived the battle and spent up to two years as prisoners of the Chinese tell us their story.
