"Number of Military and Police Personnel in Afghanistan Shrinking"

The number of military and police personnel in Afghanistan is shrinking, according to a report

In its quarterly report, the Special Inspector for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR), which monitors how American money is spent in the country, cites the US military's 'inconsistent reporting' on the strength of the Afghan Security Forces.

It also says the strength of the Afghan National Army has declined by 8.5 per cent since January 2014 and is now at its lowest since August 2011.

The release of the report comes as Afghanistan's new leaders head to the US later this month for talks with the Obama administration.
