Parts Of RAF Akrotiri Evacuated After Tornado Missile Drop Scare

Parts of RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus were evacuated on Wednesday morning after two missiles became detached from a Tornado jet as it landed at the base near Limassol.

Officials say the missiles didn't explode and that they're still on the runway, with specialist teams now in the process of removing them.

The RAF has eight Tornado GR4s based at Akrotiri which are conducting reconnaissance and bombing missions against Islamic State in Iraq, as part of the US-led coalition.

They routinely carry Brimstone missiles and Paveway-guided bombs and have launched more than 300 airstrikes since Operation Shader began back in September last year.
