RAF Typhoons Escort Russian Bombers From UK Coastline

Russia's military has released air to air footage of an intercept of one of its bombers by RAF Typhoons and a French warplane close to UK airspace.

It came as the MOD confirmed another close encounter with two Russian aircraft near the Cornish coast within the last 48 hours.

RAF jets were scrambled on Wednesday after two Russian Bear bombers were seen there.

The MoD said Typhoons from RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire escorted the Russian aircraft away from the area.

The incident comes as Defence Secretary Michael Fallon has warned there is a 'real and present danger' that Russian President Vladimir Putin could try to destabilise Baltic States like Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia, as in Ukraine.

He told journalists that NATO must be ready for any Russian aggression "in whatever form it takes".

His comments follow the announcement earlier this month that 1,000 British troops would be joining a NATO Rapid Reaction force in Eastern Europe.

Laura Hawkins reports.

Kate Gerbeau, meanwhile, spoke to Forces TV's defence analyst Christopher Lee and asked him whether Britain's response amounted to a toughening of the country's stance on Russia.
