"Refusal to Let Afghan Interpreters Resettle in UK Shames our Nation"

A former leader of the Liberal Democrats has questioned the government's policy on allowing Afghan interpreters to resettle in the UK, saying the refusal to let some move to the country 'shames our nation'.

Lord Ashdown said the scheme works well on the whole but claimed that it's more restrictive than the one used for Iraqi interpreters.

The peer added that Afghans who stop working for British Forces before a certain cut-off date are only allowed visas if they can prove they face intimidation in their own country.
