Retired RAF Officer's Plans Foiled By Fowl Play

A retired RAF officer's plan to float his remote controlled model boat on the village pond has been vetoed by the parish council because of the traumatising effect it might have on the ducks.

Nevile Cooper, 82, said the pond near his cottage at Urchfont, Wiltshire, would be ideal to sail the 4ft-long scale model of a Vosper Thornycroft fire boat.

Mr Cooper said he was considering defying the orders and taking the boat out anyway.

"What are they going to do, call the police? Confiscate the boat? Throw me in the pond?"
