Spain Fighter Jet Crash Kills 11

An investigation is expected to get underway into how a Greek fighter jet crashed in Spain, killing 11 people.

The aircraft went down during a NATO training exercise called the Tactical Leadership Program.

Spanish investigators are now trying to determine what caused the jet to lose thrust as it took off and crash into five parked planes at the Los Llanos air base in south-eastern Spain.

The crash triggered a series of explosions and a fire that took about an hour to put out.

Two Greek pilots and nine French nationals died and more than 20 people were injured.

Greece's defence ministry has now announced a three-day period of mourning for its armed forces.

The Ministry of Defence says no British personnel were involved.

Matt Teale asked Forces TV reporter Kate Wathall for more details.
