"Treasury Planning to Freeze Defence Spending"
The Treasury is planning to freeze defence spending, according to reports.
The plans, which will come into place if the Conservatives win the election, could cause a backbench rebellion, according to The Times.
It follows claims Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond warned Tory MPs “there are no votes in defence”. Mr Hammond's aides deny he made the comments.
The government, meanwhile, says it's committed to spending two per cent of GDP on defence until the next financial year, and that it's committed to spending £163 billion over the next decade, largely on equipment.
