US F-16s Arrive In Southern Turkey To Join Fight Against IS
American F-16 fighter jets have arrived in southern Turkey to join the campaign against the so-called Islamic State.
Six jets and 300 personnel have been sent to Incirlik Air Base, with the Pentagon saying in a statement the "small detachment" is from 31st Fighter Wing, based at Aviano Air Base, Italy. Support equipment was also sent. The statement said:
"The United States and Turkey, as members of the 60-plus nation coalition, are committed to the fight against ISIL in the pursuit of peace and stability in the region."
It comes after the Turkish government agreed last month to allow US planes to launch airstrikes against IS from Incirlik.
But the situation in Turkey itself is becoming more volatile, with eight people reported killed and at least as many injured in three separate attacks on Monday.
