US Soldier Shot Dead By Afghan Colleague

An American soldier has been killed and at least two others injured by an Afghan soldier who opened fire on them, according to a local police spokesman.

The US soldier was part of a security detail protecting a routine visit by an embassy official in Jalalabad.

As a convoy of military vehicles pulled out, the Afghan soldier opened fire, according to the police official, before US troops killed the rogue gunman, with other soldiers in the Afghan army vehicle also wounded.

US troops are no longer engaged in combat operations but are training, advising and assisting Afghan troops.
