Wales Benefits From A Flying Emergency Room

Wales has a new style of air ambulance. It was officially launched by the First Minister at Swansea airport.

The helicopter brings the medical advances made in Afghanistan, to this country.

THE BEST CHANCE FOR SURVIVAL

Chinook helicopters picked up the most seriously injured soldiers across Helmand Province from the moment British troops arrived in Afghanistan in 2006.

Inside it's a fully equipped emergency room, kitted out with everything the medics need to save lives mid flight.

Working on board this emergency room while it's flying at top speeds of around 170 miles per hour isn't easy.

The noise and reverberations make it hard to communicate and carry out delicate medical procedures but that doesn't get in the way of the excellent care provided by the Medical Emergency Response Team (MERT).
