British Army host first test event for Commonwealth Games venue

The British Army have taken part in a test event at one of the venues for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

The Alexander Stadium's first event since being refurbished was the Midlands area qualifiers for the Army Athletics Championships.

The venue will form the centrepiece of Birmingham's Commonwealth Games in July.

One of the athletes on show was experienced competitor Dani Hodgkinson who still has eyes on a place at the Games.

"I just want to keep going," she said.

"It's obviously a big task but to try and have that goal of getting as close to the Commonwealth Games standard as possible."

For Jessie Lutwyche, the Games in Birmingham is coming too soon, but she could be in contention next time around.

She said: "Just being here with the atmosphere, seeing the fans and everything is really inspiring."

The Commonwealth Games start on 28 July.
