Ring craft meets military might: England Boxing and Royal Navy squads unify in Portsmouth
England Boxing's Senior Performance Team spent a demanding and rewarding weekend on the south coast, completing a valuable three-day joint training camp alongside the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Boxing Team in Portsmouth.
The collaborative camp brought together two of the country's dedicated athletic groups for a comprehensive schedule focused on high-level sparring, technical development and conditioned boxing sessions.
The camp comes as the Royal Navy prepares to face the Irish Defence Force in a forces fight night at HMS Nelson on 8 October.
Shared time spent inside the ring provided boxers from both squads with a crucial opportunity to test their skill sets against unfamiliar opponents in order to broaden their competition readiness.
Beyond tactical and technical drills, the weekend placed heavy emphasis on physical conditioning and challenges.
Both squads were put through their paces in a series of rigorous outdoor and team building exercises, including swimming sessions, track work, and a multi-event "mini Olympia" competition designed to push endurance while building team camaraderie.
The camp also served a broader purpose for both teams – with athletes and coaches taking the opportunity to exchange training methodologies, discuss performance philosophies and forge strong personal connections.
Away from the ring, a major highlight of the trip was a guided visit to HMS Victory. The historic tour offered the England Boxing squad a unique window into the heritage, discipline and traditions of the Royal Navy in which their training partners operate.
