Combined Army and Navy team win European Military Climbing championship in Gloucester

A British Army and Royal Navy combined team have won the team title at the 2025 European Military Climbing championships in Gloucester.

The British team pipped the Italian and French to the title in the third edition of the tournament and the first held in the UK.

Some 61 athletes took part across four days of competition, with 12 men and women making the final and it marked the first Olympic Combined event ever staged in the UK (involving bouldering and the 80ft lead wall).

It was the first time an event was held at the brand new 270 Climbing Centre, near Gloucester, which doesn't open to the public until August.

The Inter Services was also held at the venue with the Army women and RAF men securing the team titles.

The Air Force also won the under-25s team title but it was the Navy's SI Noakes who won the individual under-25s championship.

It was an Army double in the men's and women's individual championships as Andrew Mawhinney and Amy Johnstone celebrating on the podium.

Inter Services men's podium:

  1. Andy Mawhinney - Army
  2. Dan Heath - RAF
  3. Brandon Phipps - RAF

Inter Services women's podium:

  1. Amy Johnstone - Army
  2. Isabelle Pourrat - Army
  3. Libby Moor - Army
