Army And RAF Kick Off Inter Services Championships
The Army men's footballers are on track to successfully defend their Inter Services title after a 3-0 win over the RAF.
The men in red are looking to win the title for the fifth year in a row, after ending a spell of RAF dominance in 2015.
They cruised to victory at Aldershot Town’s EBB Stadium after going 2-0 up inside 14 minutes.
Adam Wakely did the damage with his first goal coming from long-range. The RAF goalkeeper did get a hand to his curling effort, but couldn’t keep it out as the ball nestled into the top corner in the ninth minute.
Just after, the goalkeeper was given no chance as Wakely sprinted onto a nice through ball and rounded the shot-stopper before tucking the ball into the empty net.
The RAF tried to rally into the game, but a well-taken goal by Matty Glass put the result within no doubt.
A brilliant turn and pass in the middle left Glass one-on-one with the RAF goalkeeper and the striker showed great composure to side-foot the ball into the far corner. It was a great finish and the perfect end to a good performance for the Army.
They will play their final game of the Inter Services against the Navy at Yeovil Town’s Huish Park on 3 April.

For the women, a stunning goal from Olivia Dixon stole the show as the Army and the RAF shared the points in their Inter Services opener.
Both of these teams have real aspirations to win the title, but had to settle for a draw after Rachel Griffiths cancelled out Dixon’s opener to level for the RAF.
Both teams will face the Navy in their next match to try and get pole position in the table.
The Army made the perfect start and in spectacular fashion. Dixon saw the RAF goalkeeper straying from her goal-line and tried her luck with a superb dipping volley. The ball flew into the top corner to the delight of the ladies in red, but the RAF would not stay down for long.
Griffith’s free-kick took a huge deflection off of an Army defender and left the goalkeeper flat-footed, as the ball tricked into the corner.
The RAF were the better of the two sides, but failed to break down a rear-guard Army defence and both teams let their frustration seep into their tackling. Yellow cards were flashed all around, but the game ended level.
The Army will play their final game against the Navy at HMS Temamaire in Portsmouth on 2 April.
