Forces Battle It Out In Inter-Services Golf Championship
The 2016 inter-services Golf Championship begins today at the Hollinwell Notts golf club.
The Army are the defending men's champions, with the RAF currently maintaining the women's title.
The very best of the forces’ golfers got in some final practice on the Hollinwell course before the tournament started.
Over the next few days they'll be battling it out against one another for service honours.
The BFBS individual championship kicked off proceedings at the weekend, and the Women's winner was Wing Commander Rachel McAlpine with an 85, who said that conditions yesterday were “absolutely gorgeous”.
The individual men's competition, however, was close, with two army players coming out on top.
Adam Hayward on 71 was there as a reserve, but played his way into the team; he was pipped to the post by one shot by Ben Churchill, playing on a course he knows well.
It’s the first time the championships have come to this club in the heart of Sherwood Forest, rated as one of the top 100 in the world.
First tee off tomorrow is the Army V Navy with foursomes in the morning, and singles in the afternoon, with the RAF taking on the losers of day one on Wednesday.
