WATCH: All The Action From Day One In Meribel

It was a challenging race this morning for the snowboarders as they took part the first final of the championship.

Starting further up the mountain in Motaret, snowboarders from the Navy, Army and RAF battled it out on a tight and technical course.

It was the RAF’s Paddy Morris who took 1st place for the men, with Jess Drew coming in top position for the women. She said of the win:

“It’s all a bit of a daze really! I’m just really pleased.

“Last year I did okay- but this is my first time getting a first.”

This afternoon’s final was the telemark giant slalom. James French went into the competition as the favourite, having previously raced for the England team.

Luckily, there was no upset today as James claimed another Royal Navy victory:

“It felt good- you never know until you see the time if it’s a winning run, but it felt good.”
