Navy U23s Manager Praises His Inter Services-Winning Side

The Navy U23’s manager has hailed the team’s character after they were crowned Inter Services champions for 2019.

The team defeated the Army at Aldershot to confirm the title after coming from behind to beat the RAF in their first game.

Speaking after the game, Navy manager Chief Petty Officer and Physical Trainer Marc Feighery was keen to praise his winning team.

He said: “It’s a great achievement. It really is. We knew we could do it. We had a really positive vibe among the group this season but we’ve had to work hard today.

“In the RAF game, we were 2-0 down after 15 minutes and we had to show some great character.

"We’ve done exactly the same today to come out as eventual winners.”

In the game against the Army, the Navy not only scored three goals but also managed to keep the home team from scoring.

For CPOPT Feighery, that was hugely important.

“Defensively, we knew we had to wake up and I think we have answered a lot of questions today by keeping a clean sheet.

“As an ex-goalkeeper, the clean sheet means more to me if I’m honest.”

The man who lifted the trophy for the Navy was their captain, Marine Ben New.

The quality of the squad was a major factor in the win according to Mne New.

He said: “This is my first Inter Services so I’m really happy. To come straight in and win it, there is no better feeling.

“They are all good lads to be fair. We had such a strong squad this year that I felt sorry for the manager having to make the decisions.”
