Royal Navy earns convincing win against British Police ahead of Inter Services

Watch: The Royal Navy play in warm-up fixture against the British Police Force in Portsmouth

The Royal Navy senior men's team continue to the build up to defend their title at the Inter Services Championships with a convincing win against the British Police Force in Portsmouth.

With some of their more experienced players sitting this one out, this was a chance for Navy head coach Dave Pascoe to observe some of the new faces in the Navy squad as he decides his line up for the up and coming Inter Services.

In the first half the Police were the first to get off the starting blocks with Isaac Brace wrestling his way through the Navy defence for a first try in this game.

But the Navy soon responded with Jamin Hoffman collecting the offload before darting over the try line. Jake Hanley converted to give the Royal Navy a 7-5 lead.

The Police scored a second try courtesy of Joe Davies who caught the Navy napping to score from 50 metres out, but Hoffman was on hand again to level the scoreboard at 12-12 at half time.

In the second half the Navy were firing on all cylinders and the tries came filing in from Kane Teear-Bourge, Kristan Dobson, Setareki Raumakita and Rory Dingemans.

The Police managed two tries towards the end of the second half and at full time, the Navy would take a confidence boosting 40-24 win heading into their opening Inter Services test against the Royal Air Force on 20 April.

Team Captain Leading Airman (Aircraft Handler) Ben Watson said: "We're feeling really good about it to be fair.

"We feel that the British Police are quite a similar team to the RAF in the way they play and we're going to have a nice week off now, come firing back into training and right some wrongs maybe from this game.

"There's always going to be some things that we need to work on, we'll just iron out those finer details and fire into the RAF in Plymouth."

The Royal Navy will play the Royal Air Force in their opening Inter Services test which will be shown live on Forces News.
