Ukraine: Expert doubts Russian ability to capture steelworks plant

Russia cannot capture the besieged Azovstal steelworks plant in Mariupol, according to an urban warfare expert.

John Spencer, chair of Urban Warfare Studies at Madison Policy Forum, said that the facility's size and underground network of rooms, tunnels and bomb shelters have been used to the Ukrainians' advantage.

Ninety per cent of the city of Mariupol has fallen to Russian forces, but about 2,000 soldiers of Ukraine's Azov Battalion, trapped at the facility since early April, have so far held out.
