The PTKM-1R: Russia's most advanced anti-tank mine explained

PTKM-1R is an advanced munition that works by penetrating the thinner top armour of a tank or armoured vehicle.

This munition has been previously unseen in Ukraine despite having been publicly revealed by its manufacturer at the end of 2021.

Recently the PTKM-1R has been appearing in Ukraine.

The mine works by detecting a target using sound and vibrations.

As explained by the video above, when a vehicle gets closer than 100m the PTKM-1R's acoustic sensors switch on. Once the target is within 50m, the weapon launches a 2.8g warhead.

It is designed to ignore civilian vehicles and less important military targets.

The Ukrainian militaries have been using the Javelin and NLAW missiles, which work in a similar way.
