Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt has also announced that Britain will be seeking to put together a European-led maritime protection mission.
"Somebody who took that decision has something to answer for," Dr Julian Lewis MP told Forces News.
Penny Mordaunt says the tanker was intercepted in Omani waters and denies that the vessel collided with an Iranian fishing boat.
