WATCH: BGT Winner Richard Jones Brings The Magic To Forces Radio

Lance Corporal Richard Jones, the winner of Britain's Got Talent 2016 and fresh from the Parachute Regiment and Household Cavalry has been on The Hatch and Geere show, followed by a special live magic show for our audience which you can see above.

In an interview on the Forces Radio BFBS breakfast show with Richard Hatch and Verity Geere they asked Richard who inspired him to become a magician.

"I always loved Derren Brown... and I went to see one of his shows in the West End and he got me up on stage and he... involved me in the show.

"I remember looking out at an audience of what must have been probably two and a half thousand people and thinking 'this is exactly what I want to be doing'.

After then that's when I started really every spare moment I had I was trying out new ideas."

Just before Richard performed on the final of Britain's Got Talent 2016, he got a surprise boost of confidence from his brother, Bomb Disposal Operator SSgt Andy Jones from 33 Engineer Regiment EOD & Search who was deployed in North Africa at the time, thanks to Forces Radio BFBS.

Richard said that since he won Britain's Got Talent in 2016 the British Army are getting some rather strange requests.

"The Army are getting phone calls at the recruitment offices, people asking if they can join the Magic Regiment"

"If you come see me on tour you'll see I use a number of techniques that I've picked up through my through my Army training... I think it's important because it's me and it's why I got into magic."

"I'm loving the fact that I'm juggling the Army and the showbiz world. Every week is different. I think that's why the Army, Navy and RAF is such an appealing career because I've always loved the fact that one week I might be going to a parade in Portsmouth and then the next week you might be adventure training in Switzerland"
