Is the British Army ready for the wars of 2030?

The British Army might not be able to deal with the requirements of conflicts in the coming decades, according to a new report.

The Utility of Land Power to the British State report by the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) looked at the future strategic problems facing the UK's land forces.

Dr Jack Watling, author of the report, told Forces News "a strategic bet" has been made that if the UK gets into the right place by the 2030s "we will be competitive" in the following two decades.

"But, in order to get there, we have taken very considerable risks over the next… eight years," he said.

"And so I think that the risk is that, if we end up in a conflict in the next five to eight years, we will not be ready."
