British Army going back to the future with digitally integrated battlefield

Thankfully, you don't need a time machine to see the future of battle, with today's military technology dictating the battlefield of the future.

With new land and air vehicles, the British Army is looking to create a fully integrated fleet of land and air vehicles.

Lieutenant General Sir Christopher Tickell, Deputy Chief of the General Staff, told Forces News the Army is focused on ensuring  future land and air platforms are connected to each other – with a "digital backbone" informing battlefield decisions.

"There may be, say, an F-35 flying overhead that will be using its sensors to identify what is going on on the battlefield ahead of our own ground forces," he said.

"That data will move seamlessly from the aircraft down to a ground commander… for him to make timely decisions and, if necessary, target enemy formations," he added.
