Cabinet Reshuffle: Ben Wallace Continues As Defence Secretary

Ben Wallace will continue as Defence Secretary, as the Prime Minister continues to reshuffle his cabinet.

Mr Wallace left Number 10 after about an hour, smiling and not responding to press questions as he left Downing Street.

The former British Army officer succeeded Penny Mordaunt in the cabinet role in July 2019.

Mr Wallace's time as Defence Secretary has included overseeing the UK's recent withdrawal from Afghanistan, on which he admitted his "deep part of regret" in an emotional interview last month.

The publication of the Defence Command Paper and Integrated Review also took place earlier this year – documents that outlined the futures of the British Army, Royal Air Force and Royal Navy.

During his career in the British military, he served with the Scots Guards in Northern Ireland, Germany, Cyprus and Central America throughout the 1990s.

In 1992 he was mentioned in dispatches for his work in Northern Ireland.
