Investigation launched into death of soldier from 23 Parachute Engineer Regiment

A soldier has died after he reportedly collapsed during training.

Sapper Connor Morrison, of 23 Parachute Engineer Regiment, based in Woodbridge, Suffolk, died on 23 July but the cause of his death has not been publicly declared by the coroner.

One report in the media suggested the soldier is thought to have died two days after collapsing during a training session in East Anglia but no details have yet been released as an investigation into the events leading up to his death is carried out.

An Army spokesperson said: "It is with sadness that we confirm the death of Sapper Connor Morrison of 23 Parachute Engineer Regiment on 23 July 2022.

"Our thoughts are with Sapper Morrison's family and friends at this difficult time, and we ask that their privacy is respected."

Sapper Morrison's death is being investigated by Suffolk Police and the Health and Safety Executive, alongside the Defence Safety Authority.

The spokesperson added that it would be the role of the coroner to determine the cause of death, adding: "As his death is being investigated it would be inappropriate to comment further."
