Another new name has been announced as a Minister of State in the Ministry of Defence (MOD) under Rishi Sunak's government.

Alex Chalk is to move into the role of Defence Procurement Minister, a position which had been held by Alec Shelbrooke since September.

Mr Chalk entered the House of Commons when he was elected as the MP for Cheltenham in 2015, before being re-elected in 2017 and 2019.

Before becoming a politician, he worked for 14 years as a barrister â€“ specialising in counter-terrorism, homicide and serious fraud cases.

Mr Chalk was also briefly a speechwriter for William Hague, who was then serving as Leader of the Opposition. 

He served as a former member of the Justice Select Committee and has regularly campaigned on issues including legal aid, the environment and cyber security.
