Duke of Edinburgh meets RFA and Royal Navy personnel during visit to Bahrain
Royal Fleet Auxiliary and Royal Navy personnel currently deployed to Bahrain have been treated to a rare royal visit from the Duke of Edinburgh.
Prince Edward, the Commodore-in-Chief of the RFA, spent several hours talking to the men and women who are taking part in Operation Kipion – the UK's effort to maintain peace and stability in the Gulf.
He spent time on board the RFA ship Cardigan Bay as well as HMS Middleton, which is one of the three minehunters that are stationed there.
The Royal Fleet Auxiliary – known as the RFA – is the civilian support branch of the Royal Navy.
The royal visit concluded with a ceremony where His Royal Highness presented selected personnel with long-service good conduct medals.
