Tributes have been paid to a 3 Rifles serjeant, someone who was an "outstanding soldier, husband and father" and "gone too soon", who died just after Christmas.

The Rifles regiment said it was "deeply saddened" to announce the loss of Serjeant Leon Reynolds.

"We all keenly feel the loss of this impressive, kind and humble Rifleman. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and 3 Rifles," The Rifles said on X.

A tribute post on the veteran-owned Facebook page ValhallaCompany garnered numerous comments of respect for the soldier.

The post read: "Sjt Leon Reynolds, 3 Rifles. Gone too soon. Outstanding soldier, husband and father. Our thoughts are with your family at this time. 'Til Valhalla, brother.

"It's a tough time of year for some, look out for your muckers and get in comms if things get hard. Don't suffer in silence."

One user commented: "I was on seniors with the man. Proper nice guy and a genuine bloke. Thoughts go out to his family at this horrendous time."

Another said: "Absolute smashing lad massive love to his family."
