After a substantial refit lasting 1,420 days, HMS Sutherland has moved from Devonport's 2 Basin to the sea wall, marking a pivotal step towards her return to active service.

Known affectionately as The Fighting Clan, HMS Sutherland has undergone an extensive overhaul since 2020, including engine upgrades, combat systems and living quarters, ensuring the ship remains in top form until 2032.

HMS Sutherland's crew marked the milestone with a post on X, stating: "The Fighting Clan has left 2 basin and is now on the sea wall! ๐ŸŒŠ A huge milestone in our return to frontline operations."

The extensive work, carried out by Babcock at Devonport naval base, began after HMS Sutherland's return to Plymouth in 2020, following five years of demanding patrols and operational duties across the UK and abroad.

The Royal Navy predicts HMS Sutherland will rejoin her anti-submarine operations as a "potent submarine hunter", equipped with the Sea Ceptor missile system to defend against air attacks.

The refit has included substantial upgrades to her sensors, weapons and radar, intended to maintain Sutherland's operational edge until the introduction of the new Type 26 frigates.
